These awards, organized by the Departamento de Acción Climática, Alimentación y Agenda Rural (DACC), The aim is to recognise and promote high-quality extra virgin olive oils produced in Catalonia. The aim is to encourage their marketing and consumption in the food market and in the catering industry.
Participants and Conditions
The competition is open to all producers of extra virgin olive oil in Catalonia. Participants must meet certain quality requirements and submit their products for an initial screening by the Instituto de Investigación y Tecnología Agroalimentarias (IRTA) y el Official Tasting Panel of Catalonia. Only the best oils advance to the semi-finals.
Categories and Winners
The oils are evaluated in several categories, including organoleptic tasting, pairing with different recipes, and use of native varieties. The winners are those that stand out for their sensory characteristics and high attributes.
Jury and Awards
The jury is made up of chefs and representatives of the Official Taste Panel of Catalonia. The awards have no monetary prize, but the winners are publicly recognised and their oils can be tasted in different restaurants in Catalonia.
Olive Oil Action Plan 2024-2026
The action plan seeks to support and promote the production and consumption of extra virgin olive oil in Catalonia over the next three years. It includes measures to improve quality, promote marketing and increase the visibility of the product in the market.
La Gaeta is participating in the awards as a small producer in the following categories: Intense Green Fruity, Medium Green Fruity, Light Green Fruity and Ripe Fruity. The five best oils will be selected in each of these categories.
